La International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA) ha hecho públicas las nominaciones a sus premios anuales. Cuatro grandes compositores, Fernando Velázquez, Mychael Danna, John Williams y Alexandre Desplat son los que tienen el mayor número de candidaturas en esta edición, con cuatro cada uno.
Lo imposible, de Fernando Velázquez, es uno de los cinco trabajos que optan a Score Cinematográfico del Año, junto a Life of Pi (Mychael Danna), Lincoln (John Williams), The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Howard Shore) y Cloud Atlas (Tom Tykwer, Johnny Klimek y Reinhold Heil).
Velázquez está nominado, además, en la categoría de Mejor Score para Drama por Lo imposible, y a Mejor Composición Individual por «The Impossible Main Title».
Por su parte, aunque ninguna banda sonora de Alexandre Desplat está nominada a Mejor Score del 2012, el compositor francés ha sido valorado por el conjunto de sus trabajos del pasado año, de los cuales han recibido nominaciones Moonrise Kingdom (en la categoría de Mejor Score para Comedia), Zero Dark Thirty (Acción/Aventura/Thriller) y Rise of the Guardians (Animación), a pesar de que Argo, que está nominada al Oscar, no ha conseguido ninguna candidatura en los premios de la IFMCA.
A los nombres de Velázquez, Danna, Williams y Desplat, se une en la categoría de Mejor Compositor de 2012, el de uno de los más atareados del año, Danny Elfman, que también ha obtenido nominaciones por Frankenweenie (Animación) y Silver Linings Playbook (Comedia).
La representación española en las nominaciones es interesante. Junto a Fernando Velázquez tenemos a Zeltia Montes, nominada en la categoría de Compositor Revelación, sobre todo por su partitura para Vilamor. La banda sonora de Isabel, del argentino afincado en España Federico Jusid, está nominada a Mejor Score para Televisión; y Pascal Gaigne también opta al premio de Mejor Score para Documental por Los mundos sutiles. Asimismo, la compañía de José María Benítez, Quartet Records, es candidata en la categoría de Mejor Compañía Discográfica.
